The Buckingham Brigade            MP3
Difficulty: M   Publ. Code: 883095 (QueenwoodKjos)
The Buckingham Brigade is a traditional march in 6/8 meter with the trio patterned after Semper Fidelis. It falls into the category of medium difficulty, or grade 3 and includes interesting and challenging parts for all instruments. The snare and bass drum parts are challenging because of the unusual syncopations. Horns have melodic parts rather than afterbeats and there is an omission in the horn parts at measure 117. Write out the 1st alto sax part for the entire horn section beginning at 117 for 16 measures (or contact Percy and he will send you the part). This is the only one of Percy's pieces published by Queenwood/Kjos. It is listed in the Young Band Series, but it is much more difficult than anything else in that series. It has been performed by Class B and Class A bands in contests and has sold over 300 copies since its original publication in 1997.

The Patriot March            MP3
Difficulty: ME   Publ. Code: 00549
The Patriot March is a rousing, traditional style march with interesting parts in all sections. The trombone section is all in unison with the euphoniums to effectively play the strong countermelodies. French horn parts are melodic most of the way. Grade 2 difficulty makes it very appropriate for class C high school and good Junior High Bands. A complete performance on CD is available from the publisher.

El Bandido de Zamora            MP3
Difficulty: M   Publ. Code: 20100558
El Bandido de Zamora (translated as The Bandit of Zamora) is a "tongue in cheek" march which uses idiomatic Spanish march rhythms, harmonies and tone colors and alternates frequently between duple and triple meters. The percussion section has plenty to do with tambourine, castanets, xylophone, chimes, bells, snare, cymbals, bass drum and tympani. It is Grade 3, or medium difficulty, but sounds more difficult than it really is. Marcus Neiman's Sounds of Sousa Band has performed this on several concerts. A complete performance on CD is available from the publisher.

“OMEA Class” refers to the assigned difficulty rating on the Ohio Music Educators Association Required List.

Sound samples are provided for some of the arrangements on this site. These are produced as MP3 files, with links noted after those arrangements for which they are available. Many also provide a "short MP3" alternative for those with slower, dial-up connections. While all sound samples are fairly compact, the shorter versions will typically download four to five times faster than their fuller counterparts.

Score samples are also provided for some arrangements. These show the first page (and sometimes several pages) of the score, and are provided in PDF format. You will need to have the Adobe Reader installed to be able to read these files. If you are unsure if you have this capability, click on a score link and see what happens. If you cannot read the file, a free version of the Adobe Reader is available at www.adobe.com.

How to order:   Many of Percy Hall’s compositions and arrangements were originally published by Great Works Publishing or LudwigMasters Publications, whose catalogs were then purchased by Keiser Southern Music in 2020. While many of these publications are currently out of print, most are listed in the Alfred Music online catalog.
