Clarinet Choir (or quartet)
Crusader's Variations - Silesian Folk Melody, arr. by Percy Hall
Difficulty: ME  OMEA Class: C  Publ. Code: 50445001
A wide variety of instrumentations makes this arrangement very useful depending upon which color clarinets you have available. In addition to 4 parts for soprano Bb clarinets, also available are parts for Eb Alto, Eb Contra-alto, Bb Bass and Bb Contra-bass.

This arrangement includes the theme and two contrasting variations. A rich and vibrant tone will achieve an organ effect, and all parts are complete even with using just the 4 soprano clarinets. This arrangement is a great addition to your library of music for clarinets and clarinet choir.

Clarinet Choirs
Offenbach Ballet Suite - Offenbach/Hall
Difficulty: M  OMEA Class: B  Publ. Code: 20445236
Jacques Offenbach was a virtuoso cellist and a very successful composer of music for the theatre in Paris in the mid 1800’s - opera and ballet. This suite for clarinet choir includes ballet music from three different operas, La Vie Parisienne, La Perichole and Orpheus. The finale from Orpheus is perhaps the most familiar of the three, popularly known as the Can-can. This suite was commissioned by Angela Zimmer, Band Director at Ferguson Jr. High School, Beavercreek, Ohio. It is scored for the entire range of clarinets and is 5 minutes in length. The music is exciting. Performers and audiences would enjoy it immensely

March and Rejoice - Handel/Hall
Difficulty: M  OMEA Class: B  Publ. Code: 20445150
These two pieces by the great Baroque composer Handel will be a great addition to your clarinet choir library. The March is from his opera “Joshua”. It is a processional march scored with full sound of the choir from top to bottom. The second piece titled “Rejoice” is perhaps better known as “La Rejouissance”, a familiar part of the Firework Suite. It has some challenging technique calling for well articulated staccato-marcato style, but it does lie well under the fingers. It is in the keys of G and C major for the clarinets, and total duration of 3 minutes. Scoring is adaptable, but basically for 4 Bb soprano clarinets and bass clarinet with optional parts for alto, contra-alto, and contra-bass clarinets.

Air, Minuet and Jig - Hall
Difficulty: E  OMEA Class: C  Publ. Code: 20445237
This is a set of three Miniatures in contrasting mood and style. The Air is melodic with interesting harmony and moving inner parts. The Minuet is in the style of that typical 18th century dance, and the closing piece is in the style of an Irish Jig. This same piece has been published for some time as a Saxophone Quartet under the title of Three Miniatures, and has been quite frequently performed in Ohio contests. It is now available as a flute quartet and as a clarinet quartet under that same title. To avoid confusion, the title has been changed for this clarinet choir edition, and the instrumentation has been broadened to include 4 Bb soprano clarinets and bass Clarinet, with optional parts for alto, contra-alto and contra-bass clarinets.A very satisfying performance can be achieved with careful rehearsal of the notes, rhythms, style and dynamics. It is one of those piece that sounds more difficult than it really is!

“OMEA Class” refers to the assigned difficulty rating on the Ohio Music Educators Association Required List.

Sound samples are provided for some of the arrangements on this site. These are produced as MP3 files, with links noted after those arrangements for which they are available. Many also provide a "short MP3" alternative for those with slower, dial-up connections. While all sound samples are fairly compact, the shorter versions will typically download four to five times faster than their fuller counterparts.

Score samples are also provided for some arrangements. These show the first page (and sometimes several pages) of the score, and are provided in PDF format. You will need to have the Adobe Reader installed to be able to read these files. If you are unsure if you have this capability, click on a score link and see what happens. If you cannot read the file, a free version of the Adobe Reader is available at www.adobe.com.

How to order:   Many of Percy Hall’s compositions and arrangements were originally published by Great Works Publishing or LudwigMasters Publications, whose catalogs were then purchased by Keiser Southern Music in 2020. While many of these publications are currently out of print, most are listed in the Alfred Music online catalog.
